The phenomenon of feminization in healthcare environment
Kirsch, Stela ; Bosá, Monika (advisor) ; Klokočková, Šárka (referee)
The presented diploma thesis focuses on the identification of gender-based specifics in health care, specifically in the management of a health care institution as a caring institution. In the theoretical part, we defined feminism and feminist views, the concept of gender, medicine as a feminized environment, the legislative definition of work in health care in terms of management and, finally, stereotypes were defined. In the conducted qualitative research, we used unstructured interviews with health professionals (nurses and doctors) from the Czech and Slovak Republics, and we examined the gender-based specifics in health care. Research has shown that gender specificities in health care are emerging, in the areas of division of labor, impacts on job choices, equality and inequality, occupation of position and in provision of care. At the end of the thesis I presented recommendations for the use of management tools as a source of overcoming barriers to equality in the context of a caring institution. Key words Feminism, phenomenon of feminization, health care, woman, gender, caring institution, management, gender-based specifics, health care professional, nurse, doctor.
Media representation of current female political readers and gender discourse in online enviroment
Blažiová, Lucia ; Vochocová, Lenka (advisor) ; Reifová, Irena (referee)
The quantitative and qualitative analysis of the media representation of political leaders in the articles published on the Facebook pages and of the form of discussion under the articles creates fairly comprehensive picture of the discourse on the issue of women at the top political positions in the online environment. Although gender does not appear to be one of the most important factors influencing the tone of the analyzed texts, it is possible to identify several tendencies that are related to gender in both articles and comments. Except for positive tone when evaluating political actions and opinions of female politician, which highlighted the stereotypical characteristics of women (patience, compromise, etc.), articles and comments are negative. Other identified forms of media representation of female politicians were usage of images of power and weaknesses (female too strong is associated with negative tone); associating women with emotions (both extremes - absence of emotions and over-emotionality  are associated with negative tone); and using privacy-related topics such as family, fashion, hobbies (a woman who is not interested in these areas, and thus does not fall into the stereotypical image of a woman, is again depicted negatively). Analysis of the comments in the online discussion...

The reflection of feminism in the Czech public discourse
Papcunová, Kristína ; Lupač, Petr (advisor) ; Dudová, Radka (referee)
The main objective of the present thesis is an effort to understand better how Czech women construct their views on feminism and what factors of Czech distance from feminism are, which is clearly visible in the post-1989 era. The thesis starts with the description of feminism, its development and inner differentiation. Then the author focuses on development and current situation in the Czech Republic, which is specific for its historically contingent connotation. The following section presents the analytical results of the qualitative research. By applying the technique of semi-structured interviews, the author brings up the questions of how Czech women perceive and understand feminism and how do they interpret the current situation of women. One of the main objectives of the empirical part was also to find out whether it is possible to apply Aronson's typology of feminism of the situation in the Czech Republic. Due to the specificity of the Czech environment, the author comes to the conclusion that there can be identified four different approaches to feminism. Within this framework, the analysis of interviews led to identification of several important factors that affect the construction of feminist consciousness among Czech women.
Fashion and its Role in the Social Construction of Gender Boundaries
Polčová, Lenka ; Maříková, Hana (advisor) ; Pospíšilová, Marie (referee)
My bachelor thesis deals with the topic of "Fashion and its role in social construction of gender boundaries" and discusses the function of clothing in the establishment of gender indentities. As a theoretical foundation to my thesis were used the premises of symbolic interactionism from the theory of performativity by Judith Butler. According to symbolic interactionism the gender emerges by performative repetition (Butler 1993), which means that the wearing of certain style of clothing represents one of the ways by which gender is determined. On the other hand, it refuses the idea, that person would be able to attack the gender categories in subversive manner by himself. Feminity and masculinity represent cultural construct , which is nourished by the notion, that men and women have different innermost foundations, with what Butler fundamentally disagrees. The confusion of categories male/female is to great extent noticeable in fashion. The boundaries between female and male fashion are constantly crossed from both sides. Female and male joins together in androgynous fashion, which appears from the onset as possible escape from repressive power of regulative ideal, but it is questionable to what extent it is really hermaphrodite or gender-unloaded, and to what extent it follows the traditional...
Maryse Condé and her novels Heremakhonon and Moi, Tituba sorcière... Noire de Salem
Hauner, Andrew Jan ; Jamek, Václav (advisor) ; Voldřichová - Beránková, Eva (referee)
The purpose of this paper is to analyze Heremakhonon (1976) and Moi, Tituba sorcière… Noire de Salem (1986), the first novel and the most successful novel, respectively, of Maryse Condé (born 1937), one of the most influential figures of 20th century francophone literature (who is as of yet nearly entirely unknown to Czech contexts and whose work has not been translated into Czech). The underlying formal element connecting these novels, i.e. a narrating protagonist, is presented as both an individual and collective identity quest, during which Maryse Condé, for (im)personal reasons, problematizes certain theoretical paradigms of identity.
